Webdesk, TNI Mainaguri 28th March, 2018: A lady from Mainaguri named Mamoni Mandal had given birth to a baby in an E-Rickshaw (TOTO). This incident had created a furor at Mainaguri. Interestingly, during this time the BMOH Dr. Lucky Dewan claimed that victim’s family member never applied for the ‘Matriyan’ (A vehicle for the pregnant woman). According to the incident, the father’s house of Mamoni Mandal is situated at Bhujaripara and her husband’s home is at South Khagrabari. Since, Mamoni Mandal had to travel up and down in both the houses so her health condition was not up to the mark. Today when she had a labor pain she took a toto and started to reach the hospital. When the toto was traveling beside an ASHA worker’s house Mamoni shouted for her. The ASHA worker also got into the toto towards the hospital. However, the baby was delivered before reaching the hospital in the toto itself. In this incident, the Medical Officer of Mainaguri clarified to the media that there was no call from the patient’s house so the ‘Matriyan’ could not reach the patient’s house. However, the good news is that both the mother and the baby is presently alright.
