Webdesk, TNI Patiram, 14th August, 2017: Manasha Puja is nearing. Every year in the Shravan Month of Bengali Calender this Snake Goddesses Puja is performed by the Hindus. It is believed that performing this puja ensures the safety of a house from venomous snakes. However, the clay artists of Patiram, Kumarganj and other areas of Dakkhin Dinajpur this time is facing problems related to rains in making the idols. They are dependent on this idol selling throughout the year.
The demand of the idols is good every year. However, the raw material price for making them is increasing every year. Since the rains, there is no sign of sun so the electric heater is used to dry the clay idols. So the cost of idol making by clay is increasing. According to the Clay artists like Mukul Basak, Shyamal Das, Nitai Bhuimali and others, they have kept the tradition with pain because there is no one to take care of their plight. Right now they are expecting that if the Government can give them loans in a low rate of interest so that they can invest in their business.
